Over the last 3 years a number of youtube users have organised an annual event in support of the charity Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors without Borders. As a result we have managed to raise over $100,000 for the charity.
We will be doing another event this year which will be taking place over the weekend of 8/9th September. It will take the form of a 24 hour live show streamed here on blogtv.
Full details of who will be appearing and when can be found here.
The donation pages are already open. You have a choice.
Firstly, Justgiving, which is especially recommended if you are a resident of the United Kingdom as you can claim the “gift aid” which adds to your donation.
Secondly, there is Firstgiving.
You can also use the “ChipIn” link of the right of this page.
Over the last 3 years about 25 per cent of the more than $100,000 we have raised has come from items donated by you for auction on ebay.
This year’s ebay auction has already started – see here! More items will be added during the days leading up to the the event.
If you have any item that you would like to donate to the ebay auction could you send an email to email@example.com – thank you.
Previous guests on the event have included …
James Randi Neil Degrasse Tyson AC Grayling
Lawrence Krauss Eugenie Scott Matt Dillahunty
This year’s event on 8/9 September …
As with last year’s event it will take the form of a 24 hour show streamed live onto blogtv and ustream. The show will feature some of your favourite youtube users and some other big names.
A full schedule will be posted here soon.
All those involved in the show offer their time for free. No one involved in the show makes any money out of their involvement.
The donation pages Justgiving and Firstgiving are authorised collection services which were recommended for us to use by the charity itself. The event is run with the full knowledge and support of MSF UK.
More about MSF/Doctors without Borders …
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.
Every year, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provides emergency medical care to millions of people caught in crises in more than 60 countries around the world. MSF provides assistance when catastrophic events — such as armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, or natural disasters — overwhelm local health systems. MSF also assists people who face discrimination or neglect from their local health systems or when populations are otherwise excluded from health care.
MSF is a neutral and impartial humanitarian organization that aims first and foremost to provide high-quality medical care to the people who need it the most. It does not promote the agenda of any country, political party, or religious faith, and, as such, endeavors to communicate its history, background, and capabilities to all parties in a given situation so that it may gain the necessary access to populations in need.
On any given day, more than 22,000 doctors, nurses, logisticians, water-and-sanitation experts, administrators, and other qualified professionals working with MSF can be found providing medical care around the world.
